The HMCF Mission

Hear My Cry Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, was founded upon a mission to address the growing epidemic of suicide impacting our communities and the under-served populations through programs and services. We exercise high standards of ethics, best practice management, and accountability in education, prevention, and recovery. The mission of Hear My Cry Foundation is personal to the founder, Tazora Moore, because she lost her husband to suicide in July of 2012. As a result, Hear My Cry Foundation is dedicated in remembrance of Daryl Wayne Moore.

Suicide Warning Signs

Something to look out for when concerned that a person may be suicidal is a change in behavior or the presence of entirely new behaviors. This is of sharpest concern if the new or changed behavior is related to a painful event, loss, or change. Most people who take their lives exhibit one or more warning signs, either through what they say or what they do.

TALK

If a person talks about being a burden to others, having no reason to live, killing themselves, etc

BEHAVIOR

Specifics to look out for : Increased use of alcohol or drugs, Isolating from family and friends, aggression.

MOOD

Depression, rage, loss of interest, anxiety, irritability, rage and humiliation just to name a few

Suicide Risk Factors

The landmark study, a collaboration between Lunds University in Sweden and Stanford University, showed that the rate of suicide among men is almost three times that of women.  Being young, single, and having little education correlates to a stronger risk factor for suicide among men. Mental illness is a stronger risk factor among women. Unemployment was the strongest social risk factor among women, whereas being single was the strongest among men.  Of those that committed suicide, 29.5 percent of women and 21.7 percent of men had visited a doctor in the two weeks prior to their suicide, and 57.1 percent of women and 44 percent of men had visited a doctor within the 13 weeks prior to their suicide.  This suggests that besides health services, social services may need to be involved to reduce the numbers of suicides.

“His depression manifested itself in many different ways. I was heartbroken because my love wasn’t enough to soothe his mind or his heart.”
